![]() ExhibitsVisitors touring Salisbury House & Gardens are able to enjoy two exhibits featuring collections of art and manuscripts from the collections of Carl and Edith Weeks.
The manuscript exhibit features books from D.H. Lawrence and Mark Twain, and documents from famous figures including this postcard from Ernest Hemingway to Carl Weeks. In Charles’ room, are a number of paintings illustrating the broad collecting tastes of the Weeks family. The display features art dating from 1620 to the work “A Portrait of a Girl” painted in 1925 by Orlando Greenwood. This display is a great opportunity to highlight pieces not recently on exhibit. The exhibit in Lafe’s room features books and documents from artistic, literary and political figures of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. As Carl Weeks collected the works of great authors, artists, and politicians, he sought their signatures either through personal correspondence or the channels of dealers and collectors. The exhibit includes items from Mark Twain, John Singer Sargent and President Calvin Coolidge, among others. Included in this display are a number of publications by D.H. Lawrence plus a postcard from Ernest Hemingway to Carl Weeks describing fishing conditions near Key West, Florida. We hope you will make a point to see these exhibits when you visit Salisbury House & Gardens.
