2008 Salisbury Automobile Classic
9th Annual Salisbury Automobile Classic
September 7, 2008
On Sunday, September 7, the majestic Salisbury House and Gardens will again showcase a unique display of American culture and history. More than 90 classic and vintage automobiles, arrayed throughout the estate's grounds will represent vehicles manufactured from early 20th century to the current time.
Automobiles participate by invitation only and are limited to classic and prestige automobiles, plus one Special Interest Class determined by the organizing committee. Classic autos are defined as distinctive motorcars produced from 1925-1948, as identified by the Classic Car Club of America (www.classiccarclub.org) and the Antique Automobile Club of America (www.aaca.org). Prestige autos are defined as postwar vehicles built to appeal to the upscale buyer in style and quality as identified by the Antique Automobile Club of America.
The 2008 show will commemorate the 100th anniversary of General Motors and the cars of William Crapo Durant who developed the Buick in 1904, created General Motors in 1908 and Chevrolet in 1911.
As in past years, a large crowd of enthusiastic viewers are expected in 2008. The event includes a self-guided tour of Salisbury House, with refreshments offered for sale throughout the day.
Proceeds from the event benefit Salisbury House Foundation in its effort to preserve, restore, and offer Salisbury House as an educational and culture resource.
